KMPPSS has been instrumental in empowering the PLHIV community in Warangal district by building their capacities to collectivize and advocate for their varied health and socio-economic rights, through a comprehensive and integrated approach of establishing linkages with relevant government and non-government stakeholders.

We work with all individuals infected or affected by HIV/AIDS in the Warangal district including the key populations most affected by HIV/AIDS – LGBTQI community, injecting drug users, women, youth and children.

HEALTH – HIV/AIDS PREVENTION, TREATMENT & SUPPORT SERVICES

Since 2013, KMPPSS has been implementing the Vihaan – Care and Support Center (CSC) project in Warangal district with support from the Global Fund through Alliance India and National Coalition of People Living with HIV/AIDS (NCPI+).

Vihaan is a comprehensive program targeted at improving the survival and quality of life of PLHIV. Through intensive outreach, home visits, counselling by the peers and working with the Govt. ART centres, our team focuses on establishing early linkages with Anti-retroviral therapy (ART) treatment, improving treatment adherence and aiding in the management of opportunistic infections, especially tuberculosis.
The partner and the children of the PLHIV are also screened for HIV and necessary linkages and referrals established, if needed. The community also learns about positive prevention strategies, aimed at eliminating the chances of passing on the HIV infection to others.

Counselling and psycho-social support are provided to motivate the community at keeping a positive outlook towards life and helping them to take control over their physical, emotional, social and spiritual life. Health and nutrition guidance and support in the form of nutrition are regularly provided to the PLHIV.

The program also facilitates access to social entitlements and linkages to state welfare schemes, benefitting 3000+ PLHIV till date.

Currently, 9100+ PLHIV in the Warangal district are receiving HIV care and support services through the Vihaan program that is being implemented by KMPPSS Team.

LEGAL AID:

In collaboration with the Telangana State AIDS Control Society (TSACS) and with support from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), KMPPSS has been facilitating the process of providing legal services to PLHIV community. We create awareness through trainings and counselling about legal rights pertaining to property inheritance, domestic violence, etc. amongst the PLHIV. The recently enacted ‘The HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act, 2017’ has provided a significant impetus to our work of protecting the rights of the PLHIV community.

Till date, 350+ PLHIV have been provided with legal aid services.

COVID-19 RELIEF WORK

Our team ensured the home delivery of ART medicines to the community members during the Covid-19 lockdown. KMPPSS also collaborated with district authorities and other NGOs to ensure regular supply of ration and hygiene kits to the marginalized PLHIV community.

KMPPSS works in partnership with and through active engagement of the relevant district authorities and the departments to ensure that the PLHIV community receive comprehensive health and socio-economic services.
